Hedge funds in July rose 0.47% but mostly lagged other indexes due to conservative positioning, as the situation in European remained precarious and as shorts declined in value, according to industry adviser Hennessee Group. In comparison, the Standard & Poor's 500 gained 1.26% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1% in July. The Nasdaq composite index climbed 0.15% last month.
