Study Shows Chinese Deals Slow in 1H But Sees Pick Up Later This Year

Private equity deals in China will likely recover in the second half, after dipping sharply earlier in the year with deals taking longer to complete as many investors felt less pressure to finish transactions quickly as the country’s economy faltered, according to a report from Pricewaterhouse Coopers.

The volume of completed deals fell by 39% coming in under $10 billion in the first half, after topping the $16 billion mark in the second half of 2011, data compiled by PwC shows. Deal flow slowed as macroeconomic data pointed to slowing growth earlier in the year. China’s second quarter GDP grew by 7.6% year-over-year, down from the first quarter’s 8.1% growth.
