Marks & Spencer's low share price has alerted City financiers to the possibility of a bid for the high street veteran. Private equity groups and banks are said to be seriously considering a £6bn offer for M&S. The retailer's share price has fallen 13 per cent since April and is about half of what is was in 2007, leaving it vulnerable. However, City sources raised doubts that anyone could secure funding for a bid, while M&S has received no official contact.
