UCSF Chancellor Susan Desmond-Hellmann On How Healthcare Is Changing

I had the pleasure of conducting an on-stage interview last week at the National Venture Capital Association conference in Santa Clara, Calif. with Susan Desmond-Hellmann, a dynamo of a woman who has been Chancellor of the University of California at San Francisco since August 2009. Prior to that Desmond-Hellmann, an M.D. who trained and practiced as an oncologist, spent 14 years at biotech powerhouse Genentech, including a five-year stint as head of product development. UC San Francisco is exclusively devoted to the field of health sciences, and is one of the world’s leading life science-focused universities. Despite the downturn in venture investing in biotech and the life sciences, Desmond-Hellmann is optimistic about the future of medicine and health care.
