The second annual Geographic Dispersion of Private Equity Investment study found that private equity firms invested more than $8 billion in 28 Oklahoma-based companies last year.
Oklahoma's 1st Congressional District, which includes all of Tulsa County, ranked second nationwide in the value of private equity investments, according to the study.
The analysis was based on information provided by Thomson Reuters and PitchBook, which collect information on private equity investment from public sources, surveys and primary research.
Because not all private equity transactions publicly disclose investment values, total investment values were calculated from a subset of transactions that have publicly disclosed values.
The United States ranked highest among countries with private equity investment in 2011, with nearly $144 billion, followed by the United Kingdom with $16.7 billion and France with $15.8 billion.
