Sycamore Partners has agreed to acquire women's apparel retailer The Talbots Inc. (NYSE: TLB) for $369 million, or $2.75 per share in cash. That represents a 113% premium to yesterday's closing price, and a 786% premium to the closing price on December 6, 2012 – the day before Sycamore's initial takeover proposal was disclosed.

Two private equity firms are preparing an offer to buy a majority stake in Avio, the Italian aerospace group that is preparing to list its stock on the Milan exchange this year, a person familiar with the situation said Thursday.

The firms, CVC Capital Partners and Clessidra Capital Partners, would offer to buy the 81% stake held by Cinven, another private equity firm, the person told MF-Dow Jones.

L.A.'s Power Synagogues: Where the Industry Goes to Worship There are a number of synagogues central to Jewish life at the loftiest reaches of the entertainment business -- 

Temple Israel, Leo Baeck and Stephen S. Wise among them -- but none has been as prominent for as long as Wilshire Boulevard Temple. It opened in 1929 at what was then the western edge of Los Angeles (now known as Koreatown) with key financial support from film titans Irving Thalberg, Carl Laemmle, Louis B. Mayer and brothers Jack and Harry Warner.
